H A P P Y N E W Y E A R !
Before we jump into our post, we just want to share some sad news. Rufus, our hairless guinea baby died this past week. We’re shocked and sad, but we know he lived a happy life. We really miss him.
December 31st, 2019
We spent our last day of 2019 on a 10 mile hike! We originally wanted to go camping, but a lot of the roads leading to some the places we wanted to go are blocked due to snow. There is a section of the hike that is named “The Dreaded Hill” because it’s like a million miles of steep, never ending uphill. But now we have thighs of steel.
After our hike, we feasted at Lucille’s BBQ with a gift card we got from Cindy’s parents for Christmas.
We didn’t stay up late to count down because…
January 1st, 2020
We went to the Rose Parade! We’ve been trying to go for the past 6 years! But every year we just couldn’t wake up early enough. One year, we woke up and even walked half way to the bus stop before deciding to just turn around and go back to bed. But not this year. This year, we made it all the way to the parade! Seems like 2020 is off to a good start!
It was really neat to see all the beautifully decorated floats drive by us. We both agree, though, that this is a once in a while adventure. And it’s probably more enjoyable watching the parade on TV. To make it to the parade in Pasadena, we had to wake up really early and catch a bus at 5:00am. We made about 2 transfers and got to Pasadena by 7:00am. Then during the parade, there was a lot of pushing and shoving from people behind us trying to get a look at the floats. Overall, very cool experience. But probably not an experience for every year.

We went out to Jake’s hometown and celebrated his mom’s birthday! We played some volleyball, went out to eat, and had some deep conversations.
January 3rd, 2020
We continued our marathon training with a 14.5 mile run. For Cindy, these long runs just do not get easier. She does not understand how she’ll be able to run 26.2. For Jake, he feels just fine.
In the evening, one of Jake’s best friends (who was one of the best men in our wedding) came out to visit us! His friend spent nearly all of this past year in the UK for work, so it was nice to finally see him and catch up. We spent most of our evening playing Super Smash.

We went out to Cindy’s hometown and spent the day with her parents. During the day, we went on a hike with Cindy’s mom at the North Etiwanda Preserve Loop. In the evening, we cooked dinner for Cindy’s parents. We made pineapple chicken kebabs! Cindy’s mom bought some crab last minute. Yum!
January 5th, 2020
We had a Big Cleaning day and took down all of our Christmas decorations. We hate doing chores, but it is more bearable when we take on these tasks together, as a team.
It also feels really nice just to have a clean home! With the both of us going back to work/school this next week, a clean home makes us feel more productive.
And that’s our first week of 2020! Not too busy, but also not too lazy.
happy new year 🙂🙂 cheers from Portugal, PedroL

I am so so sorry for the passing of your guinea pig. 😦
You two are so active & adventurous! Super fun that you guys made it to the Rose Parade this year, I totally get how it could be better just to watch it on TV though. The food at Cindy’s parents is making me drool! Kebabs & crab?! YUM!
